Deception in the Church, Part 3

New Age Terminology

As I said before, New Age strategy is to take over the Christian church from within. One of their methods is to use Christian terminology, but change the meaning.

I have only given a few here, ones that I’ve encountered myself. Many people who have left the New Age movement and come to the Christian church have been confused by, appalled by, or terrorized by finding the same thing they left being promoted in churches across the world.

I personally grew up with New Age teaching in the form of Scientology. I am so glad that, even though I didn’t know Jesus, I resisted Scientology with every fiber of my being. While the terms were different, they still have the same “flavor” as the popular “shift” and other words used by many false prophets today. It made me very uneasy, along with the manipulation of “doing something in the natural to bring about that thing in the spiritual” realm. You don’t find that in the Bible.

When I accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, my mother told me that Scientology and Christianity were not in opposition to each other. Jesus was an “operating thetan” which is what scientologists strive to become. Jesus showed the way to do it. So, she “believed in” Jesus.

Here are a few of the terms in use today:

Deception in the Church, Part 2

What is New Age? “New Age is a compilation of metaphysical, Eastern-influenced thought systems. These thought systems unite theology, nature, and philosophy… The phrase ‘New Age’ refers to the ‘Aquarian Age’… This Age is expected to bring in peace and enlightenment, as well as reunite humans with ‘god.’ New Age doctrine says that humans are currently estranged from god due to a lack of insight concerning god’s real nature and reality. In New Age understanding, mankind is central. Humans are considered to be divine, as co-creators, and as the ultimate hope for the future of the world. Although New Age is generally tolerant of almost any world religion or philosophy, it is opposed to the “narrow-mindedness” of Christianity that teaches Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal salvation… (It) is a religious system with two main doctrines: Evolutionary Godhood and Global Unity.

The principles of evolution are constantly moving mankind toward god-consciousness, where man and reality connect in unified enlightenment. The “fittest” already understand this reality, while the “unfit” (such as Christians and other proponents of dogmatic worldviews) act as a hindrance to evolutionary forces.”

Evolutionary Godhood means that mankind will soon see itself as god. This is often referred to as the “Christ principle” or “Christ consciousness.” New Age teaches that we are basically good and inherently divine, and ultimately, we can create our own reality.

New Age springs from the Eastern religions like Hinduism. Yoga is one way to ‘get in touch with your spiritual god-self.’ Activating chakras is another (kundalini spirit). I will talk more about the kundalini spirit in a later post because it is very prevalent in the Church, a false holy spirit.

Glenn Cunningham, a missionary to India, told us that the Hindus have a plan to spread Hinduism throughout the world, including taking over the Christian church. The first response to that is, “Ha! Can’t happen! No Christian would accept Hinduism.” And yet, it is happening, right in front of us. One Hindu method is to infiltrate the Church using yoga. You can look around and see how widespread yoga and its related meditation are in our culture, including “Christian” yoga in churches.

“What exactly is the New Age? Impossible to narrow down, the New Age is actually a vast smorgasbord of beliefs and practices. Each New Ager fills his tray with whatever assortment fits his appetite. All is liberally seasoned with self-centeredness. It’s really a Have-It-Your-Way religion – thus its modern appeal.

        The typical New Ager believes:

  • ·            God is in everything (pantheism)

  • ·            All things are one (monism)

  • ·            Man is God

  • ·            Mind creates reality

  • ·            One’s own experience validates the truth

New Agers do not believe in evil. Therefore, they do not accept man’s problem as separation by sin from God. Instead, they believe that each of us has forgotten his or her own divinity.

While these practices may seem too far out to pose much of a threat to those abiding in the truth, Christians need to be on guard. In the past twenty years, New Age influence has been steadily creeping into our culture in schools, corporations, and doctors’ offices. Since Star Wars, movies have become dominated by New Age spirituality. Reincarnation, karma, the cosmic consciousness – all these once obscure ideas have become commonplace.”

Deception in the Church, Part 1

In my book, I only mentioned deception once, saying it could be a reason you are not receiving your healing.  God’s covenant with His children and His healing are contingent on us obeying His Word. If we’re following ‘another gospel,’ we can’t expect God to bless us with healing.

Deception in the Church is rampant. And, if you’re deceived, you won’t know it. It is important to periodically check what you believe to make sure it lines up with God’s Word. It is also important to hone your spiritual discernment, and be open to checking your beliefs if someone you trust questions what you believe.

Sometimes deception in the Church is very subtle. One New Age strategy to take over the Church is to infiltrate it using Christian terminology, but applying a different meaning to the words than what is perceived by the Christian hearing it.

A simple example of that would be, “God told me…” Hearing that, esp. in church, would lead most if us to think they are Christians referring to the one, true God. However, the “God” they refer to could well be Satan, Allah, any of a myriad of “gods,” or even self.

Sometimes deception comes in the form of false doctrine. Scripture warns us that in the last days there will be false teachers and false prophets. Some are easy to spot; others are camouflaged in their well-tailored ‘sheep skins,’ but inwardly they are ravening wolves (Mt. 7:15). They blend in so well with the congregation that they are considered one of the flock. If you have doubts as to their sincerity, you will be hard put to pin down the source of your unease. After all, if it looks like a sheep and talks like a sheep, it must be a sheep, right? These are the particularly dangerous ones!

Sometimes spiritual discernment just comes as a feeling. And you can’t question someone’s motives just because you ‘feel’ that they are fake! Eventually, it will manifest, but it may take years and by then they will have done immeasurable damage.

                                                Hone your spiritual discernment!

Learn to tell the difference between natural aversion and sensing a spirit that is wrong.

I spent many years thinking I was just being critical of certain people, mistrusting them for no reason. Eventually I noticed that I was always right about them. I didn’t spot every false spirit, but the ones I had questions about always proved to be false. Then someone told me it was the gift of spiritual discernment.

Since I grew up under the influence of my mother’s dedication to Scientology, one form of New Age, I became familiar with some of the terminology and methods they use. I believe exposure to evil spirits made me more sensitive in regard to recognizing those spirits. Which leads to my belief that lots of exposure to the Holy Spirit will make it easier to recognize false spirits. When you know the real thing, the fake becomes obvious.
