Since I assert that sickness and disease are not sent by God to try us, how do I handle the book of Job? Very simply.
First of all, God didn’t send the boils to Job – Satan did. God merely removed his protection from Job so he could be tried. Faith without trials does not know what it is capable of. It has no strength. Does this mean God will do the same to us? Not according to what I’ve read.
Job didn’t have a personal relationship with God. He had no covenant like we have. He had no mediator to speak for him. He had no Holy Spirit. He did the best he could, which is way better than most of us today with our Savior, Holy Spirit, knowledge of God, scripture and a better covenant!
Notice what Elihu says would happen if he just had a mediator:
Job 33:24b-26 – 24b I have found a ransom for his life. 25 Then his body will become as healthy as a child’s, firm and youthful again. 26 When he prays to God, he will be accepted. And God will receive him with joy and restore him to right standing.
That is New Covenant! Jesus is the ransom for our life. Healing for our bodies was provided by the whipping Jesus took and by His death on the cross. It is part of our covenant. Job understood that if we just had a mediator between God and man, we would be restored to righteousness and health.
The trials Job went through that we may have to face at some time would be the loss of all or some material possessions, the loss of loved ones, and having friends tell us we’re having troubles because we’ve sinned.
But healing is part of our covenant. God’s name and nature are healing.
